Term 1 2026 Foundation To Drawing and Accidental Art

For the first half of this term, students will learn the basics of drawing including perspective, scale, angles and tone using colourful oil crayons.

Second half of term will stimulate creative imagination with Accidental Art.

Students will create a narrative from accidental splashes of water colour, evoking 3 questions: What is it?, Where is it? and What is it doing?

Brain storming for the best title to complete the artwork. The title can be key to giving the viewer some insight into its meaning and is fun to do

Term 2 Urban Landscape with Tone

This term our medium is acrylic paints
-
Tone is essential for creating form and perspective
-
We start with painting a tonal ladder with only black and white
-
Our urban landscape is full of inspiration and will be our inspiration
-
We will use 1 colour initially with black and white, creating the understanding and appreciation of the subtle colours created when we mix colour with black and white, whilst creating tone, form and perspective

Once students become proficient with 1 colour, we will add a second colour creating more possibilities in colour mixing

Term 3 Mastering Colour with Design

This term provides the most valuable experience in mixing colours based on the spectrum
-
We only need 6 colours for our essential palette, from which we can create every colour around us (with black and white)

Creates confidence and appreciation of colour and colour mixing

Learning about the 3 similar colour families and applying that to design

Applying the symbolic meaning of colours for each design theme eg Still and Quiet, Busy and Loud, Joy etc

How to create harmony in design with colour families

Term 4 Creative Expression with Ink and Water Colour

Exploring the expressive world of abstract portraiture

Drawing inspiration from Pablo Picasso

Will delve into stylised and distorted forms that ulilise textures, patterns and angular lines to create impactful and dramatic portrait compositions.

Art Studio 48 is a boutique art studio, which offers small classes for children after school hours and on Saturday. Each class is limited to 6 students, which ensures that each students gets maximum support and attention. Age groups are combined so that both younger and older students work side by side and inspire each other. Ages groups start from 5.5yrs through to 13yrs. Every student develops at their own level. Trial classes can be purchased for $49 for a 1 hour class, from the services page.
